Experiences of older people

Older people often experience a disempowering and damaging lack of choice and control in their day-to-day lives. Assumptions and stereotypes about older people persist and these can impact negatively on an older person’s life. This can in turn create or contribute to key problems that older Australians face.

We have an opportunity to examine the negative impact of language, assumptions and ageism on the lives of older people. Knowing more about these concepts can guide us to work in ways that support older people to greater independence and wellness.

ACSA is offering an introductory session for all aged care workers, people new to the workforce or for those who want to enhance their work practice.

You will learn how to enable people to navigate the experiences of loneliness as well as ways to support a person’s unique identity. Participants will also identify how to support people to strengthen their independence and active aging for positive life outcomes.

Exploring with an older person, what makes a ‘good life’ for them, can lead to discoveries that build connections, understanding and esteem.

Experiences of Older People will explore how to enhance the lives of older people by supporting their independence, choices and control over their lives.

Register here for Experiences of Older People on Tuesday September 15.
