The Department of Health (Department) has created guidelines and resources on how to respond when residents in residential aged care facilities (RACFs) are diagnosed with COVID-19.

The Department has developed National COVID-19 Residential Aged Care Emergency Communication resources, which includes Communication Guide Templates. This includes templates for informing residents and their nominated representatives of a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis (see pages 6-8 of this document).

In December 2021, the Department updated the First 24 hours – managing COVID-19 in a residential aged care facility document. This document provides a staged approach to managing the first 24 hours following the identification of a COVID-19 positive case in a RACF.
