Aged Care Transition to Practice Program

ACSA has been awarded by the Australian Government Department of Health, funding to develop an evidence-based industry led Aged Care Transition to Practice Program (ACTTP) for nurses over three years from 2020-21 to June 2023.

09 Jun 2021

Graduate nurses will be selected from Tasmania, New South Wales, Queensland, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory during the three-year period.

The objective of the program is to increase the availability of registered nurses (RN’s) with experience and training in aged care. ACSA will build on the success of ACSA’s Aged Care Services Graduate Nurse Transition to Practice Program, which is now in its tenth year in Tasmania, and which has over 60 graduates currently engaged. This program has enabled newly graduated nurses to become confident, safe, competent and professional practitioners in a range of aged care settings.

The Aged Care Transition to Practice Program (ACTTP) aims to do similar, including:

•             To provide a supportive environment for graduate RNs in their initial year of clinical practice;

•             To build upon the clinical skills RNs develop during their university studies with capabilities specifically required for the aged care sector;

•             To increase the attractiveness of aged care nursing through mentorship and building career pathways; and

•             To enhance provider capability to attract, develop and retain new nurses to the aged care sector.

ACSA through the ACTTP will deliver ‘Introduction to the Aged Care Sector’ training, provide education and professional development resources and sessions, a community of practice network and a mentoring scheme.
