New COVID-19 recording and reporting requirements

The Government's new reporting requirements for residential aged care, home care and short-term restorative care start next Tuesday 27 July 2021.

20 Jul 2021

Providers are required to report weekly on the COVID-19 vaccination status of residents and workers.

The Government has introduced the new requirements for providers of services in a residential aged care setting and for providers of home care packages and short-term restorative care services in home or community settings.

These relate to weekly reporting on the COVID-19 vaccination status of residents and workers as well as the collection of records.

The recording requirements have already started, and the new weekly reporting requirements start on Tuesday 27 July.

Residential aged care

Providers of services delivered in a residential aged care setting are now required to collect records on the COVID-19 vaccination status of residents.

From Tuesday 27 July 2021, providers of services delivered in a residential aged care setting are required to report weekly on the COVID-19 vaccination status of residents.  This is in addition to the existing requirement to report on workforce COVID-19 vaccinations.

These requirements apply to approved providers of residential aged care facilities, providers of multi-purpose services, flexible aged care providers of Short Term Restorative Care (STRC) delivered in a residential aged care setting, and providers of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program (NATSIFACP) who operate residential services.

It is voluntary for residents to be vaccinated and to disclose if they have received a COVID-19 vaccination.

Reporting is via the My Aged Care service provider portal.

More information can be found on the Department of Health’s website including these factsheets: guidance for residential aged care providers; information for residents; and information for residential aged care workers.

Home care packages and short-term restorative care

Providers of home care packages and short-term restorative care services in home or community settings are now required to collect records on the COVID-19 vaccination status of workers including contractors and volunteers.

From Tuesday 27 July 2021, providers of home care packages and short-term restorative care services in home or community settings need to report weekly on the COVID-19 vaccination status of workers including contractors and volunteers.

In-home and community aged workers are being strongly encouraged by the Government to be vaccinated and to notify their employer if they have received a COVID-19 vaccination.

Reporting is via the My Aged Care service provider portal.

More information can be found on the Department of Health’s website including these factsheets: guidance for in-home and community aged care providers; and information for in-home and community aged care workers.

Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program (NATSIFACP) services in home or community settings

The new requirements will not apply until later in the year.  The Department of Health will be contacting CHSP and NATSIFACP services to provide support and guidance prior to the new requirements coming into effect.
