Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Scholarship Application

Please be advised that the scholarship opportunity to the AICD's 'Governance Foundations for Not-For-Profit Directors' course has been deferred until the new 2022-23 financial year. ACSA will keep you updated as new dates are announced.


The AICD scholarship program is committed to achieving excellence in leadership through strong and effective governance, forming a pivotal part of the aged care reform agenda and improved care outcomes.

Executives, Directors and Boards of aged care provider organisations have a fundamental role in driving the cultural change required to bring about landmark sector reforms. A range of new Governance measures are planned in response to some of the immediate priorities to deliver better outcomes for senior Australians, aged care providers and the Australian community and respond to the Recommendations of the Royal Commission’s final report.

Who should apply?

Executives, Directors and Boards of not-for-profit aged care provider organisations with an annual turnover below $8 million. Applicants must have the ability to travel to Sydney or Melbourne to complete the course. 

What are the course benefits?

Participants will gain an understanding of fundamental compliance and performance related roles and responsibilities of not-for-profit directors, specifically in the areas of governance, risk, financial performance and strategy.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the key duties and responsibilities of directors in the not-for-profit environment
  • Appreciate the potential personal liability of directors and council members
  • Understand governance structures as they apply in the not-for-profit context
  • Consider the differences / similarities and nuances of the director’s role in the not-for-profit / for profit sectors
  • Understand the role of directors in overseeing the strategy formulation and risk management approach of the organisation
  • Review the financial statements and the linkages between them
  • Discuss how directors in the not-for-profit sector can link the financial statements to understand the ‘financial story’ and health of the organisation


What is the course structure?

The complete program encompasses the essential duties and responsibilities of directors in a 1.5 day course:

  • Governance for Directors
  • Finance for Directors
  • Strategy and Risk for Directors

What commitments are required?

As this is a scholarship opportunity there is no cost to enrol in the course.

Course attendees will need to travel to Sydney or Melbourne to attend the 1.5 day course in person. Catering during course times will be provided but all travel expenses including flights and accomodation are at your own expense.
