Attached for your information, please find tables providing analysis of the 2016-17 ACAR results by organisation type and by State/Territory.

9,911 residential aged care places were allocated in response to 637 applications seeking 45,053 places – with around 75 per cent of those allocated being for the development of new residential aged care services.

Residential aged care places

  • 9,911 places were allocated; 9,851 now and 60 deferred in Queensland.  For the 2015 ACAR - 10,940 places were allocated, 9,907 at the time and 1,033 deferred:
    • 9,911 is 22% of the 45,053 places sought.  For the 2015 ACAR - 38,859 places were sought.
    • By State/Territory, the percentage of places allocated to that sought ranged from 8.4% in South Australia to 42.4% in Western Australia.
  • There were 5,178 general access places allocated.  The other 4,733 places have a priority condition for access for people from one or more special needs groups and/or for dementia or are respite places.
  • Of the 9,851 places:
    • 3,600 (36.5%) were allocated to not­‑for‑profit providers; 6,209 (63.0%) to for‑profit providers; and 42 (0.4%)  to government providers.
    • By State/Territory, the allocation to not-for-profit providers ranged from 0.6% in the Australian Capital Territory to 100% in Tasmania.
  • 30 providers received an allocation of 100 or more residential aged care places:
    • 9 were not‑for‑profit providers and 21 were for‑profit providers.
  • Note: as at 30 June 2016, there were 195,825 operational residential aged care places in Australia of which 110,178 (56.3%) were provided by not‑for‑profit providers; 76,630 (39.1%) by for‑profit providers; and 9,017 (4.6%) by government providers.

 

Grants

  • 22 grants totalling $64m were provided ranging from $125,381 to $8.5m.  Providers had sought $415m in capital grant funding.
    • For the 2015 ACAR - 22 grants totalling $67m were provided ranging from $90,000 to $14.5m.
